Like a junkie after a long-awaited hit, Maggie truly revelled in the narcotic effect of the story she had just witnessed. Relaxed and pain-free she lay with a faint smile creasing the sides of her eyes. She felt ‘good’.
The delight of his was only heightened by the revelation that her halo was due to be removed sometime later in the week. Adding to Maggie’s joy, and after a multitude of x-rays, she was told that the bones of her pelvis and legs had healed better than hoped. The stump of her lower leg looked better than expected. At all points of incision, no infection was to be found. All that was missed was the sliver of bone that was ever so slowly moving inward at the temporal region of the brain, yet the physical effects were outwardly invisible. The large blood vessel it approached becoming closer and closer.
Mrs. Trout shaved Maggie’s legs.
